Friday Letters - MS History, Mr. Beitchman

May 30, 2008

Dear RMDS Families,

It has been a wonderful school year! The students have been working hard on their respective studies and have been truly engaged with the topics we have covered. Looking back to the beginning of the year, it brings a smile to my face to realize how much effort your children have put into their studies. They have made tremendous progress with their expository writing, their ability to discuss and reason, and their desire to approach a subject with mature and deep curiosity.

The 5th grade has just completed a quiz covering the indigenous peoples of the Four Corners in the Southwestern U.S. The 6th grade turned in their final papers on Ancient Egypt this past Wednesday, and the 7/8th grade will be handing in their final papers on Capitalism this coming Tuesday, June 3rd. In the final week of class, each of the grades will be covering issues relating to global sustainability.

I’d also like to add one last comment about the graduating class this year. The 8th graders have come a long way, and I am proud of them and the work they are doing in Social Studies. I have no doubt that they will bring their strong work ethic and curiosity for social science into their high school years, and I hope to see them return to campus for a visit every once and a while!

Sincerely,
Dave Beitchman
