Pre-School Monthlies - After Care

Ms. Sarabandi

April, 2007

Dear RMDS Preschool parents,

Greetings!  Spring is finally here. I hope you all have had a good month and enjoyed spending time with your little angels whenever you could. They grow so quickly - but still there are lots of opportunities to enjoy every moment of it.

We have purchased some new games for the Aftercare program, like “Candy Land” and a memory game. We also have a cash register with play coins and dollar bills which the children enjoy. They bring items from the shopping area and buy them from the cash register. They recognize different bills and can enter the amount with its decimal (cents) like $1.05.

We made some sorting and classifying games, too. The children can categorize between fruits and vegetables, live and not-alive, animals which live in the water, on the farm and in the jungle or animals that fly and we practiced sorting them by categories.
We also practiced counting by matching butterflies wings with number of dots and the children did a great job!

We read some books by Todd Parr and we really liked them: “ The Peace book”, “ The Feel Good book”, “ The Best Friends Book”, “ Do’s and Don’ts”,  “ The Feelings Book” and “ It’s OK to be Different” and one child said: “I love Todd, he wants to see me listening and not running around”. We talked about why it is OK to have different feelings and it is good to share our feelings with somebody we love. We talked about how it is OK to be different and each of us is special just the way we are. We read some books from Eric Carle as well and enjoyed them.

We drew our shadows outside and traced them and after a little while we noticed that the shadow had moved and learned that it is because the earth moves: rotating around its axis and also we talked about the earth revolving around the sun.

We practiced our sharing, using our words and playing nicely with each other. We have had a lot of fun in Aftercare this month!

Cheers,

Tina Sarabandi
