Pre-School Monthlies - Garden Room

Ms. Martinez, Ms. Molina & Ms. Fogerty

April 2008

Dear Garden Room Parents,

We have really been enjoying ourselves this month!  We finished up our "Animal Planet" theme with zoo animals and birds.  The children were very interested and entertained during the "Zoo Animal" segment.  We had great fun making delicious "Monkey Bread", singing silly zoo songs, and designing cute paper plate elephants.  We read some terrific books  from the library, too. "Sam Who Never Forgets" and "The Baby Bee Bee Bird" were Garden Room favorites this year.

During the "Bird Unit", the children had fun coloring and gluing with feathers to create their own fancy birds.  Next, they helped to make play dough which they rolled into small eggs for their hand-made nests.
We went on a lovely nature walk to search for pine cones and listen to live birds sing outdoors.

The Garden Room has been busy with several popular sensory activities this month.  The children have enjoyed making fabric collages, playing with shaving cream (mixed with paint!), painting with golf balls, printing with baskets, and doing car track paintings.  What fun!

We were fortunate to have Francisco's mom, Feli, come into our classroom to lead a fantastic cooking project.  She and the children made empanadas with many delicious fillings inside them.  They were wonderful to eat, and smelled just as good!  Thanks, Feli!

We are also enjoying the Spring season in the Garden Room.  We recently planted many varieties of herbs and flowers in the planter boxes outside of our classroom.  This has been a joyful activity for us all and we look forward to watching our garden grow and blossom- just like our children!  Many thanks to our parents who donated the soil and plants.  We really appreciate it!

Here's to a Great Spring!

Fondly,

Barbi, Blanca, & Lena
