Academics

Ring Mountain Day School offers a structured and well-balanced program including a well-rounded educational experience, rigorous academics, specialist classes, before and after school care, after school enrichment classes, and a full summer program at the preschool campus.

The preschool curriculum stresses social and emotional development within a larger context of cognitive, language, creative and physical development. We are laying the foundation for future learning by teaching children through play. At Ring Mountain Day School we believe that play is: constructing, designing, building, adding, balancing, selecting, discussing, observing, listening, experiencing, questioning, experimenting, measuring and participating. Our teachers follow themes set out for the school and make plans based on the needs and abilities of the children in their classrooms.

The Elementary/Middle School Programs aim to accomplish two objectives. First is to incorporate and carry out the school’s Mission: stimulate creative thinking, motivate academic excellence and instill a lifelong desire to learn. The second objective is collaboration among teachers to ensure that progress at each grade level builds on the progress of the grade levels that preceded it. In Middle School, this collaboration becomes interdisciplinary—that is, horizontal across subjects, as well as vertical from grade to grade.

This multi-faceted approach to our program offers many opportunities for students to become engaged based on their special interests, and utilizes multiple learning styles.  It fosters enthusiasm and variety, and a positive attitude toward school. The program helps students become eager and proud of their continuing progress:  they look forward to the next lesson or project, and the next challenge.  A very high percentage of our students are admitted to their first-choice high schools, in an area where top academic percentiles are the norm for public and private high schools alike. Our students consistently achieve good grades and report back to us that they find they have the confidence and intellectual breadth to continue to achieve and advance.
