Middle School : Physcial Education

The physical education program at Ring Mountain Day School is designed to instill a joy of movement and physical activity in all students and to encourage them to be physically active and healthy throughout their lifetime.

All physical education classes are carefully planned to build confidence and teach students developmentally appropriate basic athletic and motor skills and concepts, as well as health related fitness knowledge and concepts.

Physical Education at Ring Mountain teaches, develops and reinforces good sportsmanship and leadership skills.

Grades 5-6

The physical education curriculum for 5th and 6th gradee refines students' basic knowledge of many movement concepts and movement skills. Traditional and nontraditional games and activities which are played throughout the school year provide ample opportunities to apply those skills and concepts. Health related fitness also becomes a larger component of each lesson as flexibility, muscular strength and endurance become part of the daily curriculum.

Grades 7-8

Physical education for 7th and 8th grade solidifies students knowledge and competency in many movement forms and physical education activities. While engaging in traditional and nontraditional games and activities tactical skills and teamwork are practiced as well as demonstrating an understanding and respect for differing abilities. Students also explore the importance of a physically active lifestyle in terms of health, social interaction and enjoyment and are encouraged to set personal fitness and health goals to work towards inside and outside of the school environment.
