Admissions

Welcome!

We are pleased that you are interested in Ring Mountain Day School as a possibility for your child. Ring Mountain is a kindergarten through eighth grade day school located in Mill Valley, serving families in Marin County, the East Bay, and San Francisco.

For San Francisco families, we offer student transportation between the city and RMDS. We seek families who reflect the diversity of the Bay Area and desire a challenging environment where students excel from the individualized and positive affirmation that only a small school can provide.

Interested families are encouraged to visit the elementary/middle school campus to observe and preview all Ring Mountain Day School has to offer.

Tours are offered by appointment. We recommend that your fill out the Request Information form on the site. You may also contact our Admissions Office at

Admission Policy

The admission process at Ring Mountain is selective and comprehensive. No one factor is given priority when making a decision about a student's admission. We use criteria which assess achievement, aptitude and character to determine a good fit with our learning community. Throughout the process there are multiple opportunities for us to get to know candidates and their families, review the student's school records and teacher recommendations, and assess whether the family’s educational goals match ours. These components blend together to provide a comprehensive view of each candidate. As a result, the Ring Mountain student body is a remarkable group of young people who demonstrate a wide spectrum of talents and abilities. Our students share a desire to learn, great curiosity, and the high energy needed to participate in a vigorous academic program and take advantage of the many opportunities in the performing and fine arts offered here.

As families apply for Kindergarten, we are looking for children who are developmentally ready, which may not always correspond exactly with chronological age. Our goal is to create a balanced class; taking age, gender, personality, and other factors into consideration. Students at other grade levels are enrolled as space allows. We encourage all prospective applicants to visit the school for a tour or an Open House, and talk to current families. Ring Mountain siblings are given priority in the admission process. When there are more qualified candidates than openings available, students will be placed in a wait pool. If a space opens up, the admissions office will admit a student who is the best match for the class and school.
